Rosh Chodesh Av/New moon Av in 2025 begins at sunset on Friday, July 25th and ends at nightfall on Saturday, July 26th.
Rosh Chodesh Av, marks the start of the Hebrew month of Av. It’s a time of mixed emotions, as it’s both the beginning of a period of mourning for the destruction of the Temple and also the start of a month that ultimately includes the joyous 15th of Av. Specifically, the first nine days of Av, including Rosh Chodesh, are a time of heightened mourning known as the “Nine Days,” culminating in the fast of Tisha B’Av.
